Abstract
This Decree establishes the Intersectoral Strategy for Obesity Prevention, which recognises obesity, a chronic disease and risk factor for other diseases, as a public health problem and social issue requiring an intersectoral and intersectional approach. This Strategy aims to halt the increase in obesity among adults and promote a reduction in the occurrence of this condition among children and adolescents, with special attention to populations in situations of vulnerability and social risk. The objectives of the Intersectoral Strategy are: encourage breastfeeding of children up to two years of age or older, exclusively during the first six months of life; encourage diversity in complementary feeding for Brazilian children and reduce exposure to and consumption of ultra-processed foods; reduce the prevalence of obesity in children; halt the growth of obesity among adults; promote healthier food environments and urban spaces, primarily in areas of food deserts and swamps; increase access to and consumption of fresh or minimally processed foods; reduce the consumption of ultra-processed foods; promote physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviour; and raise awareness among the population about the social impacts of obesity.
