Decree No. 13.016 establishing the Tanaru River Indigenous Peoples National Park, situated in the municipalities of Chupinguaia, Corumbiara, Parecis and Pimenteiras do Oeste, in the State of Rondônia.

This Decree creates the Rio Tanaru Indigenous Peoples National Park in the State of Rondônia, with the primary objective of conserving a strategically important forest area located in the transition zone between the Amazon and Cerrado biomes. The decree aims to protect biodiversity by safeguarding endangered fauna species and preserving critical ecosystems, including forest cover and water resources, particularly those linked to aquifer recharge zones. It also seeks to ensure the protection of archaeological, historical, and symbolic sites associated with the Tanaru Indigenous people, thereby reinforcing the safeguarding of indigenous heritage and cultural memory. In addition, the decree promotes the establishment of ecological connectivity through the consolidation of corridors between indigenous lands, while supporting scientific research, environmental education, ecotourism, and recreation in contact with nature. It further provides for the public ownership and management of the park, including the expropriation of private lands where necessary, and assigns administrative responsibility to the competent environmental authority, in coordination with indigenous institutions.
