Abstract
This Decree, consisting of 50 articles divided into six Chapters, regulates Law n. 6.134 of 2 June 1988 providing for the preservation of the natural deposits of groundwater in the State of São Paulo. The groundwater will have a permanent programme of conservation and protection, aiming at its best and rational use. The following actions are included in the management of groundwater: I - assessment of groundwater resources and the planning of their rational use; II - granting and inspection of the rights of use of these waters and III - implementation of measures relating to the conservation of groundwater resources. In the administration of groundwater, its interconnection with the surface water and interactions observed in the hydrological cycle shall always be taken into account. The requirements and restrictions contained in this decree do not apply to stations destined exclusively to the domestic, residential or rural users, subject, however, to the supervision of accredited public agents, regarding health and safety conditions.
The Decree is divided as follows: Preliminary provisions (Chap. I); Environmental quality protection (Chap. II); Protected areas (Chap. III); Approvals, Grants and Registration (Chap. IV); Precautionary measures (Chap. V); Supervision and Sanctions (Chap. VI).
