Abstract
This Decree provides for the organization of the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad) under Law No. 24.313 of 28 April 2023. Semad is responsible for implementing and monitoring public policies for conservation, preservation, recovery and inspection of environmental resources. It aims at improving environmental quality, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the effects of climate change. In particular, is responsible for planning, preparing, deliberating, coordinating, managing and supervising sectoral actions under the responsibility of the State relating to: environmental management instruments; studies, research projects and actions to promote modernization and technological innovation; application of standards relating to the conservation, preservation and recovery of environmental resources; public policies relating to basic sanitation; actions related to improving the environmental management of solid waste arising from industrial and mining activities and special waste; emergency measures in case of risk to human lives or the environment and in case of economic loss to the State, etc.
