Abstract
This Decree establishes the State Programme for the Development of Recreational and Sport Fishing in the State of Pará and regulates State Law No. 6.167 of 1998, with the main objective of disciplining, promoting, and organizing amateur and sport fishing activities under principles of environmental sustainability. It aims to ensure the sustainable use of fishery resources; protect aquatic ecosystems through planning, monitoring, and conservation measures; integrate recreational and sport fishing into broader fishery management and fishing‑agreement frameworks; promote tourism, employment, and income generation for local and riverine communities; and create an institutional governance structure to coordinate policies, define fishing rules, support “catch and release” practices, and strengthen data collection, enforcement, and oversight of fishing activities within the territory of Pará.
