Decree No. 9.568 approving the Regulation of the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development.

This Decree approves the Regulation of the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development (SEMAD). SEMAD is responsible for: the formulation, management and execution of the state policy on the environment and water resources, sanitation and solid waste, aiming at sustainable development; formulation of state policies on basic sanitation and solid waste; protection of ecosystems, water and mineral resources, flora and fauna, as well as the exercise of police power over activities that cause environmental impact; adoption of economic and social strategies, mechanisms and instruments to improve environmental quality and the sustainable use of natural resources; formulation and execution of rural environmental regularization and environmental licensing policies for the integration of environment and economic production; production, systematization and dissemination of information in the areas of atmospheric sciences, agrometeorology, meteorology and hydrology; coordination of the State's ecological-economic zoning in conjunction with federal, state and municipal institutions; and the promotion of environmental education and the production of scientific knowledge with a view to the sustainable use of environmental and water resources. In addition to the powers set out in the caput, the duties of the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development - SEMAD are: the exercise of environmental administrative police power within the scope of the State of Goiás; the disciplining, registration, licensing, monitoring and inspection of access to environmental, floristic and faunal resources, in addition to their use; the environmental licensing of activities, enterprises, products and processes considered effectively or potentially polluting and those capable of causing environmental degradation, under the terms of the law; the implementation of the State Technical Register of Environmental Defense Activities and Instruments and Activities that Potentially Pollute or Use Environmental Resources; and the generation, integration, systematization and dissemination of information relating to the environment.
