Law No. 10.306 creating the State Policy for Nature Conservation Units and providing for the State System for Nature Conservation Units (SEUC).

This Law creates State Policy for Nature Conservation Units and provides for the State System for Nature Conservation Units (SEUC). The objectives of the State Policy aim to: guarantee the preservation of the biodiversity of the natural heritage and to contribute to its scientific knowledge; identify, create, implement and manage conservation units in order to protect representative samples of natural ecosystems and the connectivity between them; encourage the creation of plans, programmes and actions aimed at conservation units; avoid the conversion of forests and other forms of native vegetation, also to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change; promote socio-economic development; promote the participation of traditional peoples and communities and scientists; territorial and environmental monitoring of indigenous lands, quilombolas and traditional peoples and communities, in order to guarantee the leading role of these social segments and their organisations in the state of Pará; monitor climatic conditions in order to predict possible extreme climate-related events and thus propose measures to mitigate the impacts on the population; systematize information on conservation units; stimulate the rational use of environmental resources; and carry out biodiversity management and the implementation of policies aimed at climate and the preservation, conservation and sustainable use of the biodiversity of fauna and flora, both terrestrial and aquatic.
