Abstract
The purpose of this Law is to establish criteria and standards for the control, use and management of State Forests and Extractive Reserves within the State of Rondônia. It takes into account the following principles: I - use of natural resources in a sustainable manner, guaranteeing the well-being of the present and future generations; II - socio-economic development that seeks to value human beings, ensuring decent work and improving quality of life, in harmony with the environment; III - encouraging the study and development of techniques that promote the sustainable use of environmental resources; IV - mitigating the impacts arising from the exploitation of natural resources; V - planning and supervising the use of natural resources; and VI - encouraging environmental education at all levels, with the involvement of the entire community. State Forests are constituted in areas of public domain and intended to ensure, through rational exploitation, a supply of forestry products and to protect the local fauna and flora, so as to guarantee the survival of their species under natural conditions. The primary objective of exploiting state forests must be to maintain environmental balance, combined with regional social and economic development.
