Abstract
This Law creates the “School Garden” Programme with the objective of developing actions to institutionalize the installation and maintenance of vegetable gardens on the premises of state public basic education schools. The “School Garden” Programme aims to: promoting environmental education, with the integration of the garden into the activities offered by the school, within its pedagogical project; encouraging good eating habits; developing students’ skills and abilities; supplementing school meals; supplying seedlings to local communities. The food produced in the school's gardens will be primarily intended for consumption by regularly enrolled students, as a complement to existing programmes for providing school meals.
