Law No. 11.734 creating the Ecological-Economic Zoning of the Cerrado Biome and Coastal System of the State of Maranhão.

The Law creates the Ecological-Economic Zoning of the Cerrado Biome and Coastal System of the State of Maranhão (ZEE-MA). The ZEE-MA of the Cerrado Biome and the Coastal System is a strategic planning instrument for geographical planning and territorial management of the spatial area, made up of ecological and agro-ecological, legal-institutional and socio-economic guidelines and criteria, to be taken into account when formulating public policies for the following sectors: I - improving the population's quality of life; II - protecting and restoring the remaining environmental heritage including forestry; III - sustainable socio-economic development; IV - environmental education; V - climate change including water resources; VI - territorial planning on a regional scale with land regularization; and VII - socio-productive inclusion of traditional populations and indigenous peoples with protection of biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge.
