Abstract
This Law establishes the Public Policy entitled ‘A child is born, a tree is planted’, with the aim of encouraging interested municipalities to adopt measures that promote environmental preservation and education, through the planting of a tree seedling, preferably native to the region, for each child's birth registration at the registry offices of the municipalities of the State of Maranhão, to be planted in an appropriate location. The Campaign referred to in this Law will be held annually on the date commemorating National Tree Day, 21 September, and its main objective is to raise awareness about the preservation of this valuable asset.
