Abstract
This Law establishes the National Policy on Air Quality and provides for its principles, objectives and instruments, as well as guidelines for air quality management in the national territory. Individuals or legal entities, under public or private law, responsible for emitting atmospheric pollutants, managing air quality and controlling pollution are subject to compliance with this Law. The objectives of the National Policy are: ensure the preservation of public health, well-being and environmental quality for present and future generations; ensure adequate monitoring of air quality; foster scientific research applied to technology and innovation; progressively reduce emissions and concentrations of atmospheric pollutants; propose and encourage the adoption, development and improvement of clean technologies, with a view to protecting health and improving air quality; align itself with policies to combat climate change; ensure broad access to up-to-date public data and information on air quality monitoring and management; and strengthen air quality management in the bodies and organizations that make up the National Environment System (Sisnama).
