Law No. 15.202 establishing the State Policy on Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture and the State Steering Committee on Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture.

This Law establishes the State Policy on Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture and creates a State Management Committee to coordinate its implementation in the State of Bahia. The law aims to promote, support, and integrate agricultural and livestock activities carried out in urban and peri-urban areas as a strategy for sustainable development, food and nutrition security, social inclusion, and income generation. The policy covers the production, processing, distribution, and commercialization of food, medicinal and ornamental plants, phytotherapeutic products, and inputs, while encouraging organic waste management and the integration of agricultural activities into the ecological and economic systems of cities. Its guiding principles include the right to adequate and healthy food, public participation, agroecology, organic production, sustainable food systems, bioeconomy, environmental protection, and the sustainable use of natural resources. The policy seeks to expand access to healthy food, strengthen food security, promote agroecological production, support environmental conservation, reduce the use of agrochemicals in urban and peri-urban areas, and encourage the circular use of resources through recycling of organic waste. It also aims to foster climate-resilient cities, support youth participation, strengthen the role of women in urban agriculture, combat food insecurity linked to social inequalities based on race, ethnicity, and gender, and preserve traditional knowledge related to medicinal plants. To achieve these objectives, the law provides for coordinated action among state institutions and municipalities, prioritizes vulnerable populations as beneficiaries, and establishes a multi-stakeholder Management Committee responsible for planning, monitoring, evaluating, and promoting the implementation of the policy.
