Abstract
This Law establishes mandatory requirements for the proper management of solid waste generated at public, private, and public-private events. Its primary objective is to ensure that waste produced during large events is managed in an environmentally sound manner, in accordance with Brazil's National Solid Waste Policy and the State Solid Waste Policy. The law promotes waste prevention and reduction, encourages reuse and recycling through selective collection systems, and requires the appropriate final disposal of residual waste. It applies mainly to events such as concerts, festivals, cultural celebrations, conferences, trade fairs, corporate gatherings, and sporting events with significant attendance. The law places responsibility on event organisers, venue operators, and suppliers of products that generate waste. These actors must provide the necessary infrastructure for waste segregation and disposal, inform participants about correct disposal practices, and ensure that waste generated during events is properly managed. The legislation also encourages partnerships with associations and cooperatives of recyclable-material collectors, particularly in public events, to strengthen recycling and resource recovery efforts. In addition, competent authorities may monitor compliance and apply sanctions for violations, including penalties related to improper waste disposal and environmental contamination.
