Law No. 18.189 creating the State Policy on Artisanal, Industrial, and Sports Fishing in the State of Santa Catarina.

This Law creates the State Policy on Artisanal, Industrial, and Sports Fishing in the State of Santa Catarina (PPAIAE/SC). The Policy will promote the ordering, promotion and supervision of fishing activity, with the objective of achieving, in a sustainable way, the socioeconomic, cultural and professional development of those who practice it, their traditional communities, as well as the conservation and recovery of fishing resources. The objectives of PPAIAE/SC are: stimulate the social organization of fishers and the fishing industry; improve the quality of life of fishing communities, strengthening fishing as a whole and stimulating the income generating activities, as a way of reducing regional and social inequalities; sustainably enhance fishing production; ensure food security for fishing communities; qualify and modernize production chains; ensure the rights of fishermen, already achieved; develop actions aimed at the use, management, protection, conservation and recovery of fishing resources and aquatic biodiversity; encourage and support sustainable practices; strengthen social entities, councils, institutions and state bodies related to fishing; create a georeferenced database and guarantee public and continuous access to information relating to fishing; and recognize and disseminate the culture and knowledge of fishing communities.
