Abstract
This Law creates the State Policy for Agroecological and Organic Production (PEAPO), with the aim of promoting and encouraging the development of agroecology and organic production systems and sustainable extractivism, as well as systems in agroecological transition processes, contributing to the sustainability and quality of life of populations in rural, forestry, and urban areas, through the supply and consumption of healthy food for everyone and the sustainable use of natural resources.
PEAPO’s objectives are: strengthen the production, processing and consumption of agroecological, organic and agroecological transition products; promote access, use and conservation of natural assets by farmers; implement financial instruments for environmental services to protect and enhance traditional practices of use and conservation of agrobiodiversity; disseminate knowledge in agroecology, organic production and agroecological transition through local knowledge; conduct technical assistance and rural extension and popular education programmes, state and non-state, with a focus on organic and agroecological production; ensure the participation of civil society in the development of programmes, research projects, technical assistance and rural extension of agroecological organic production; structure shared information on organic and agroecological production and conversion to organic production; stimulate and strengthen the production of inputs for organic and agroecological production, etc.
