Abstract
This Law establishes the State Agricultural Policy for Planted Forests and their Products The Policy aims at the sustainable development by reaffirming the importance of agricultural and livestock activity and the role of planted forests in sustainability, economic growth, improving the population's quality of life and in the national and international markets for forest-based products, food and bioenergy. The Policy will be based, for commercial purposes, on promoting socioeconomic development, structuring and establishing forest-based productive arrangements, income-generating activities, in addition to generating environmental benefits, such as conservation of native forest formations, carbon sequestration, recovery of degraded areas and nutrient recycling.
The objectives of the Agricultural Policy are: to recover degraded or desertified areas with the aim of reconstructing their original fauna and flora and the ecological relationships; increase the productivity of planted forests; promote the adoption of good cultivation, management, protection and harvesting practices for planted forests; promote the production, industrialization and consumption of wood and non-wood products and by-products originating from planted forests; promote the use of forest biomass in energy generation; promote phytosanitary control of planted forests; promote the development and competitiveness of the planted forest sector, aiming at its technical and economic viability, through support for scientific and technological research, technical assistance and promotion, infrastructure programmes and projects; promote soil conservation programmes, natural regeneration, recovery of degraded areas, as well as minimization and control of soil erosion and siltation of water courses, etc.
