Abstract
This Law creates the State Policy for the Development and Expansion of Beekeeping and Meliponiculture (POLIMEL) and the State Programme to Promote Beekeeping and Meliponiculture (PROMEL) in the State of Santa Catarina, with the aim of promoting the growth of beekeeping and meliponiculture in the State, reconciling such activities with environmental sustainability and technological development.
POLIMEL’s objectives are: contribute to the strengthening and sustainable development of the beekeeping and meliponiculture production chain in Santa Catarina, through coordinated actions between public and private entities in a participatory manner; serve as a foundation and parameter for the planning and execution of projects, plans and other activities involving beekeeping and meliponiculture; promote research for the development of new pollinator management technologies; strengthen the beekeeping production chain and formation of new groups of producers; improve logistics for the processing, use and commercialization of related products; encourage genetic improvement, through the selection of native bees; promote professional courses for the public interested in the activity; monitor the sanitary conditions of apiaries and beekeeping farms in the State; integrate beekeeping activities into programmes and projects that involve the study and use of the ecological service of bee pollination, etc.
