Abstract
This Law establishes the State Policy for the Promotion of Basic Sanitation in Rural Areas in Pernambuco, with the primary objective of improving public health and quality of life for rural populations by addressing deficiencies in sanitation infrastructure. It seeks to promote the environmentally sound treatment of wastewater, protect water resources such as aquifers and springs, and ensure the decontamination of water used by rural communities. By reducing exposure to contaminated water, the law aims to mitigate the incidence of waterborne diseases and enhance environmental and human health conditions in rural settings. In addition, the law aims to promote awareness, technical support, and innovation in sanitation practices through educational initiatives, dissemination of information on disease prevention and water management, and the encouragement of appropriate technologies for water and sewage treatment. It supports the implementation of practical solutions such as biodigestor septic systems and filtering gardens, alongside technical assistance and partnerships with institutions to develop and expand sanitation technologies.
