Abstract
This Law establishes the State policy to encourage sustainable consumption. Its objectives are: encourage changes in consumer attitudes when choosing products that are produced based on ecologically sustainable processes; encourage the reduction of consumption of water, energy and other natural resources, renewable or non-renewable, in residential areas and in production, commerce and service activities; promote the reduction of the accumulation of solid waste, through the post-consumer return of packaging, batteries, tires, light bulbs and other products considered dangerous or difficult to decompose; encourage the reuse and recycling of products and packaging; encourage companies to incorporate social, cultural and environmental dimensions into the production and management process; promote wide dissemination of the life cycle of products, appropriate techniques for managing natural resources and production and business management; encourage the use of natural resources based on ecologically sustainable techniques and forms of management; ensure the right to information and promote environmental labelling; encourage environmental certification; encourage the integration between science and technology, in particular, encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices that minimize negative impacts on the environment; encourage the regionalization and decentralization of activities related to environmental education; stimulate trainings in the field of environmental education to teach sustainable consumption practices.
