Abstract
This Law establishes the Route of Traditions of the South-Central Region of Ceará as an instrument for promoting cultural, religious, natural, gastronomic, and historical tourism. Its principal objective is to enhance and strengthen the region’s local traditions and identities by valuing its cultural heritage, religious sites, natural attractions, culinary traditions, and historical assets. The Law seeks to foster sustainable tourism as a means of generating employment, income, and social inclusion, while also supporting creative entrepreneurship, handicraft production, and the promotion of regional gastronomy. The Law further aims to preserve the memory and cultural and religious manifestations of the municipalities included in the route. It identifies significant tourist, cultural, and religious attractions such as museums, historic churches, theatres, reservoirs, sanctuaries, natural parks, gastronomic centres, fairs, and popular celebrations. The municipalities of Orós, Icó, Iguatu, and Jucás are designated as key destinations within the route because of their distinctive cultural, historical, natural, and gastronomic characteristics. The Law also allows other municipalities in the South-Central region of Ceará to join the initiative if they preserve and promote relevant cultural, religious, natural, or gastronomic traditions, thereby encouraging broader regional development through heritage-based tourism.
