Abstract
This Law establishes a framework for the collection and environmentally sound final disposal of used mattresses in the State of Paraná, with the primary objective of reducing environmental impacts associated with improper waste management. It requires manufacturers, retailers, and suppliers to take responsibility for collecting used mattresses from consumers at the time of new purchases and ensuring their proper disposal without additional cost to the consumer. The law also seeks to promote shared responsibility in waste management by allowing consumers, under specific conditions, to assume responsibility for disposal, while introducing enforcement mechanisms, including penalties for non‑compliance, and aligning its provisions with broader environmental and solid waste policies to support sustainable waste management practices.
