Law No. 23.763 creating the State Policy for Community Tourism.

This Law creates the State Policy for Community Tourism within the State of Minas Gerais, under Law No. 22.765 of 20 December 2017. Community tourism aims at unifying the values of good living, solidarity economy and fair trade, as a socio-economic activity planned and carried out by rural and traditional communities, in the countryside, in the city, in the forest and on the water, etc. The objectives of the policy are: encourage community-based tourism, through the promotion of supportive economic enterprises managed by family and community groups, participatory planning, sustainable management of natural resources and cultural appreciation, in order to allow them better living conditions; improve the use of environmental resources and maintain essential ecological processes, contributing to the appreciation and conservation of Minas Gerais’ socio-biodiversity; respect the sociocultural authenticity of host communities, conserve their material and intangible cultural assets, as well as their traditional values, as well as contribute to intercultural understanding and tolerance; ensure viable long-term economic activities that provide equitably distributed socioeconomic benefits, including stable employment and income generation opportunities, as well as social services for host communities that contribute to poverty reduction; promote support, advice and promotion to host communities, in order to enable a dialogical, satisfactory and meaningful experience for tourists, making them more aware of sustainability issues and promoting practices committed to sustainable tourism; make credit instruments available to support the policy; support the creation of partnerships with the Union and municipalities to develop policy actions covered by this law; support the creation of partnerships with international development organizations to attract resources from community-based tourism entrepreneurs; promote supervision and social control of the policy covered by this law, with the participation of state councils related to tourism, sustainable rural development and traditional peoples and communities; provide security and adequate sanitary conditions for tourists.
