Law No. 23.939 creating the Agroecological and Organic Production Centre in the Southern region of Minas Gerais.

This Law creates the Agro-ecological and Organic Production Centre, aimed at promoting and fostering the development of agroecology and organic production in the southern region of Minas Gerais. Government actions related to the Centre will observe the following principles: sustainable local development; associations and cooperatives; social participation; food security and sovereignty; diversity; equity; women's empowerment; health; agroecology. Government actions related to the Centre will observe the following guidelines: promotion of agroecological and organic production; promotion of agrobiodiversity; transversality of public policies on agroecology and organic production; promoting the sustainable use of natural resources in production units; strengthening participatory processes to guarantee the quality of agroecological and organic products; technical assistance and rural extension in agroecology; encouraging the consumption of agroecological and organic foods; recognition of environmental services provided by agroecological and organic production systems; strengthening associations and cooperatives between agroecological and organic producers; promoting initiatives for the empowerment of women farmers; support for research, development and innovation with a focus on the production and processing of agroecological and organic products; promotion of agro-industrialization and rural tourism; support for the commercialization of agroecological and organic products in institutional and private markets; encouraging rural succession by promoting access to public policies for rural young people and women; support for the generation and use of renewable energy.
