Law No. 24.347 establishing the State Policy to Promote Environmental Sustainability.

This Law establishes the State Policy for the Promotion of Environmental Sustainability in the State of Goiás, with the aim of strengthening sustainable waste management and advancing environmental protection. Its principal objectives are to improve selective collection of solid waste, encourage recycling practices throughout the state, support the activities of recycling cooperatives through employment and income generation, and contribute to cleaner urban environments. The policy also seeks to promote public health by helping to reduce conditions that facilitate the spread of diseases transmitted by Aedes aegypti, while supporting broader sustainability goals. A further objective of the Law is to link environmental sustainability with social development and food security. To this end, it creates mechanisms to encourage the participation of socially vulnerable populations in recycling activities through the exchange of recyclable materials or used cooking oil for food. The Law also promotes cooperation between public authorities, private entities, cooperatives, and civil society organizations to ensure effective implementation of the policy, while requiring the Executive Branch to establish monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for its execution.
