Abstract
This Law establishes a comprehensive state policy aimed at the identification, recovery, and sustainable management of degraded or altered areas throughout the State of Minas Gerais. The primary objective of the Law is to restore ecological functions, promote environmental stability, and enable the sustainable future use of areas affected by environmental degradation. By prioritizing the mapping and cataloguing of degraded lands, the Law seeks to support ecosystem regeneration, prevent and mitigate erosion processes, reduce sedimentation of water bodies, and enhance water availability in river basins, thereby strengthening environmental resilience and public safety. The Law aims to integrate environmental recovery with sustainable development by encouraging nature‑based solutions, reforestation, biodiversity conservation, and climate‑adaptation practices. It promotes the adoption of conservationist land‑use practices, agroforestry systems, and ecological corridors, while fostering technological innovation, private‑sector participation, and social engagement in restoration efforts. Through coordinated action among public authorities, local institutions, and civil society, the Law seeks to balance environmental protection with productive land use, contribute to climate risk reduction, and ensure long‑term ecological, social, and economic sustainability in Minas Gerais.
