Abstract
This Law measures for the protection of springs, natural water sources, and the surrounding native vegetation. The law aims to conserve vital freshwater resources by recognizing these ecosystems as protected areas and defining key concepts related to springs and water sources. To prevent environmental degradation, it creates a mandatory conservation zone with a minimum radius of 50 meters around perennial springs and water sources, where tree cutting and any form of deforestation are prohibited in accordance with federal legislation. The law further seeks to strengthen environmental stewardship by imposing obligations on landowners, occupants, and possessors of urban and rural properties to identify and preserve water sources located on their land. Where vegetation within Permanent Preservation Areas has been removed, responsible parties must restore the affected vegetation, and this obligation remains attached to the property in cases of transfer of ownership or possession. In addition, the law requires the Executive Branch to conduct awareness and educational campaigns promoting the preservation of springs throughout Amazonas and to adopt implementing regulations to ensure effective enforcement of its provisions.
