Abstract
This Law creates the State Code for the Protection of Animals, within the State of Espírito Santo, with a view to making socio-economic development compatible with the preservation of the environment. The Code establishes rules for the protection of animals in the State, with the aim of protecting them from abuse, mistreatment and other cruel behaviour. Chapter 2 deals with the preservation and protection of wild and exotic fauna and to fighting cruelty to animals, including domestic ones, defending them from abusive exploitation, unnecessary suffering and death and all practices that jeopardize their ecological function or cause the extinction of species.

This Law enters into force on the day of its publication.
