Law No. 8095 establishing the State Policy to Combat Desertification and for the Degraded Areas Recovery.

This Law establishes the State Policy to Combat Desertification and for the purposes of Recovery of Degraded Areas within the State of Piauí, in accordance with Federal Law No. 13.153 of 30 June 2015, State Law No. 6.140 of 6 December 2011, and in harmony with the State Forum on Climate Change against Poverty. The objectives of the State Policy to Combat Desertification and for the purposes of Recovery of Degraded Areas are: prevent the process of desertification and degradation in susceptible areas throughout the state territory; stimulate and monitor actions aimed at recovering and remediating areas impacted by desertification and degraded, throughout the state territory; establish mechanisms for the protection, conservation and recovery of flora, fauna and degraded soils, in areas at risk or impacted by desertification and/or degradation; stimulate the development of scientific and technological research aimed at the sustainable use of natural resources and the desertification process in the State; promote environmental education for affected communities and different sectors of the population, including managers, on the problem of desertification and degraded areas; strengthen exchange and integration between state public policies to combat desertification and adapt to climate change in regions susceptible to desertification.
