Abstract
This Law amends the State Solid Waste Policy of Amazonas (Law No. 4.457 of 2017) by introducing new obligations for construction companies engaged in public works in the State of Amazonas. The main objective of the amendment is to strengthen the management of construction waste and prevent environmental, health, and safety risks associated with construction activities. The law requires contractors to maintain construction sites and surrounding areas free from waste that could endanger public safety, public health, or the movement of pedestrians and vehicles during the execution of public works. The amendment further seeks to ensure the proper collection, removal, and disposal of construction-related waste by obliging companies to clean up all solid waste generated by the work, including rubble, construction material residues, packaging, and other debris, and to dispose of such waste at sites authorized by the competent environmental authorities upon completion of the project. In addition, construction companies must adopt preventive and containment measures to avoid the dispersion of waste and minimize negative environmental impacts on areas adjacent to construction sites, thereby reinforcing environmental protection and compliance with the State's solid waste management policy.
