Law No. 8.177 creating the State Tourism System, the State Tourism Policy, the State Tourism Council, the Regional Tourism Governances, the Piauí Tourist Intelligence Observatory, in addition to establishing the State Tourism Incentive System (SIETUR).

This Law establishes the Piauí State Tourism System, the State Tourism Policy, the State Tourism Council, the Regional Tourism Governances and the Piauí Tourist Intelligence Observatory, consolidating strategies and priorities with the aim of supporting planning, management and promotion of tourism in the municipalities of Piauí, and aiming for the sustainable and integrated development of the sector, in addition to establishing the State Tourism Incentive System (SIETUR). It will be up to the State Secretariat for Tourism (SETUR) to coordinate the State Tourism Policy.
The objectives of the State Tourism Policy are: contribute to improving the population's quality of life, social inclusion and the reduction of social and economic inequalities, through income generating activities; support the sustainable development of decentralized areas; encourage the development of tourism supply and demand research in municipalities and regions, the development of municipal tourism plans, municipal tourism councils, programmes and projects aimed at the tourism production chain; increase tourist flows, stay and average spending by tourists in the State, through promotion and support for the commercialization of tourist products and services; stimulate the creation, consolidation and dissemination of products, itineraries, services and tourist destinations in the State, with a view to attracting tourists; support strategic projects and programmes for attracting, participating in and holding fairs and events; encourage municipalities to plan, order, manage, monitor and publicize tourist experiences, etc.
