Law No. 8.282 creating the State Policy to Combat Hunger and Food and Nutritional Insecurity in the State of Piauí.

This Law establishes the State Policy to Combat Hunger and Food and Nutritional Insecurity in the State of Piauí, with the aim of guaranteeing a healthy and accessible diet for all, integrating actions with different sectors of society, with the objective of formulating and implementing food and nutritional security policies, programmes and actions, placing overcoming hunger and guaranteeing Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security as an absolute priority in Piauí. The State Policy has the following objectives: identify, analyse, publicize and act on the conditioning factors of food and nutritional insecurity in Piauí; articulate programmes and actions from different sectors that respect, protect, promote and provide the human right to adequate food, observing social, cultural, environmental, ethnic-racial diversity, gender and sexual orientation equity, as well as providing instruments for its enforceability; promote sustainable agroecological-based food production and distribution systems that respect biodiversity and strengthen family farming, indigenous peoples and traditional communities and that ensure consumption and access to adequate and healthy food, respecting the diversity of food culture national; incorporate into State policy respect for food sovereignty and the guarantee of the human right to adequate food, including access to water, and promote them within the scope of international negotiations and cooperation.
