Law No. 8.306 creating the State Policy and the Programme on Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for Family Farming and Agrarian Reform in the State of Piauí (PEATER and PROATERPI).

This Law establishes the State Policy on Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for Family Farming and Agrarian Reform (PEATER) and the State Programme for Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for Family Farming and Agrarian Reform in the State of Piauí (PROATERPI). PEATER's objectives are: promote sustainable agroecological rural development; support economic initiatives promoting regional and local potentiality; increase the production, quality and productivity of agricultural and non-agricultural activities, including agro-extractivism, traditional riverside communities, aqua-extractivism, forestry, fishing and artisanal communities; promote improvements in the quality of life of its beneficiaries; develop actions aimed at the management and conservation of natural resources, agroecosystems and biodiversity; implement actions, research and guidance for the preservation of micro-basins on rural properties of the Parnaíba River basin; implement actions, research and guidelines to control and combat erosion and desertification; build sustainable production systems; improve cooperatives and technical assistance and rural extension system; contribute to the expansion of rural, urban and peri-urban agriculture; and promote the inclusion of agroecological knowledge respecting the traditional knowledge.
The State Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Programme for Family Agriculture and State Agrarian Reform (PROATERPI) is the main instrument for implementing PEATER. PROATERPI will have as its deliberative body the State Council for Rural Development and Agricultural Policy (CEDERPA) and will be operated by the Secretariat for Technical Assistance and Agricultural Protection (SADA), with the following responsibilities: coordinate actions aimed at achieving its objectives; promote intersectoral and multidisciplinary policies aimed at consolidating objectives; guide, monitor and analyze the technical, economic, social and environmental feasibility of the actions and projects to be developed; provide the technical and financial support necessary for the development of actions; and establish partnerships with public and private entities, companies and Civil Society organizations.
