Law No. 8.742 providing for the National Social Protection.

This Law, consisting of 42 articles divided into six Chapters, provides for the National Social Protection. It establishes that the social assistance is a citizen's right and a duty of the State, which ensure that basic needs are met. Social assistance has the following objectives: I - social protection, which aims to guarantee life, reduce damage and prevent the incidence of risks, especially: a) protection of the family, maternity, childhood, adolescence and elders; b) support for vulnerable children and adolescents; c) promoting integration into the labour market; d) qualifying and rehabilitating people with disabilities; and e) the guarantee of one monthly benefit salary to the person with disability and to the elderly who prove that do not have the means to provide for their own maintenance; II - social assistance surveillance, aims to carry out territorial analysis of the protective capacity of families and in it the occurrence of vulnerabilities, threats, victimization and damage; III - the rights' protection, which aims to guarantee full access to rights in the set of social assistance provisions. Law No. 14.171 of 10 June 2021 amends Law No. 13.982 to establish protection measures for women providing a single-parent family in relation to receiving emergency aid referred to in art. 2.
