Law No. 9.055 regulates the extraction, industrialization, use, commercialization and transport of asbestos.

This Law, consisting of 14 articles, regulates the extraction, industrialization, use, commercialization and transport of asbestos and products containing it, as well as of natural and artificial fibers, of any origin, used for the same purpose. This Law establishes that the following activities are prohibited in the whole national territory: I - extraction, production, industrialization, use and marketing of actinolite, amosite (brown asbestos), anthophyllite, crocidolite (blue asbestos) and tremolite, mineral varieties belonging to the amphibole group, as well as products containing these mineral substances; II - spraying of all types of asbestos/asbestos fibers of the chrysotile variety and of the natural and artificial fibers referred to in art. 2 of this Law; III - sale in bulk of asbestos/asbestos fibers of the chrysotile variety as well as natural and artificial fibers referred to in art. 2 of this Law.
