This Law establishes the Urban and Rural Family Farming in Schools Programme in the State of Alagoas, with the primary objective of prioritizing the purchase of fruits, vegetables and other fresh agricultural products from local family farmers for their consumption in public school. The law seeks to provide healthier and more nutritious food to students while strengthening local family farming systems and promoting closer links between schools and rural communities. In addition to improving food quality, the programme aims to support nutritional and environmental education by helping students understand food production processes through educational activities, including guided visits to farming sites and learning about sustainable food systems. The law also aims to generate income and stimulate local economic development by creating market opportunities for family farmers and encouraging cooperation between schools, the State Secretariat of Education (SEDUC), and agricultural producers. It promotes the integration of food production, environmental awareness and community participation, including education on food waste reduction, recycling, ecosystem conservation, and the value of local productive traditions.
