Abstract
This Law establishes the State Policy for the Sustainable Development of Fisheries and the activities of Women Clam Harvesters in the State of Pará, aiming to promote the sustainable development of fishing and seafood activities as a way of promoting social inclusion programmes, quality of life for fishing and shellfish communities, generating work, income and conserving aquatic biodiversity for the enjoyment of future generations. This Law is applicable to all fishing activities and activities carried out by women clam harvesters carried out in the State. The objectives of the State Policy are: ensure the sustainable development of fishing activities and the activities of women clam harvesters, as a source of food, work, income, culture and leisure, promoting the use of fishing and shellfish resources, as well as optimizing the resulting economic benefits, in harmony with preservation of the environment and biodiversity; promote research and technological development, training, and fisheries and seafood extension; encourage the creation of areas for storage, conservation and processing of fish and shellfish; encourage incentives for this sector, mainly ensuring the training of artisanal fishers and women clam harvesters; promote the quality of life of fishing communities and women clam harvesters, guaranteeing access to public policies; preserve, conserve and recover ecosystem resources, in the respect for traditional knowledge, etc.
