Order No. 612 approving the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Large Cats (PAN Grandes Felinos).

This Order approves the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Large Cats, PAN Large Cats (PAN Grandes Felinos), contemplating two species nationally threatened with extinction. The general objective of the PAN Large Cats is to reduce the vulnerability of painted and brown jaguar in 5 years, with a view to improving the conservation status of their populations. The PAN Large Cats opens and establishes priority conservation strategies for two species of mammals considered constantly threatened with extinction on the National List (Order MMA No. 444/2014), in the VU (Vulnerable) category: Panthera onca and Cougar Puma concolor. To achieve the intended objective not caput, the PAN Large Cats, valid until 2023, establishes actions distributed in six Specific Objectives: I - Maintenance of areas suitable for the permanence of the species of large cats; II - Increase in functional connectivity (habitat and population) and environmental quality for large cats; III - Creation and expansion of measures to reduce the number of shot individuals of large cats; IV - Promotion of coexistence measures between large cats and humans in order to reduce the negative impacts of anthropic activities; V - Promotion of practical measures and measures to minimize the negative impacts of undertakings, aiming to favor the maintenance of large cat species in free life; e VI - Preparation of two procedures for the rescue, reception, maintenance, rehabilitation and destination of individuals of large cats.
