Abstract
The Sectorial Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change in Mining - Low Carbon Emission Mining Plan (MBC Plan). It was presented and cited in Law 12.187 of 29 December 2009, and made clear the need for government and society, especially the economic sectors, to respond to their respective emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG). This sectorial plan represents an important subsidy for the performance of public power and society in the planning, implementation and monitoring of policies aimed at reducing GHG emissions.
The general objective of this Sectorial Plan is to promote a sectorial analysis, based on a preliminary diagnosis, based on PNM 2030, the IBRAM inventory and direct consultations with companies in the sector, with a view to reducing GHG emissions in mining, through initiatives by the emission abatement companies related mainly to energy efficiency and to the reduction of the consumption of fuels with non-renewable energy. The specific objectives of this Plan are: To contribute to achieving voluntary national commitments under the National Policy on Climate Change; Promote knowledge about GHG emissions from the mining process among companies in the sector; Promote efforts to transform good practices to reduce GHG emissions in a national standard; Influence and stimulate the formulation of policies to support small mining companies that foster the adoption of efficient actions to adapt and mitigate GHG emissions; Integrate the mineral sector into national public policies related to climate change; Develop mechanisms that encourage greater investment in IDPs and support to SMEs in the sector.
