Abstract
This Act concerns response to a disaster emergency declared by Order of the Prime Minister under section 27 of this Act and for this purpose creates the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and defines functions of the Director of the Agency. The Director shall be responsible to the Prime Minister for coordinating and implementing the general policy of the Government of The Bahamas relating to the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters in The Bahamas. These shall also be an Advisory Committee of NEMA. The Director shall in consultation with the Advisory Committee prepare annually for the approval of the Prime Minister a National Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan. The Prime Minister may designate specially vulnerable areas for the purposes of the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters.
