Abstract
The objectives of this Act are: (i) to establish a public private partnership with the Academy to make instruction and training in maritime more accessible and affordable to young persons; (ii) to promote the Academy globally as an institute in the region leading in maritime instruction and training; (iii) to designate the Academy as the nationally recognized institute for maritime instruction and training in The Bahamas; (iv) to advance the social and economic growth of The Bahamas by developing the maritime industry. This Act lays down provisions on the power of the Minister to enter into a partnership agreement with the Academy; autonomy, funding, functions and powers of the Academy; collaboration of the Academy with the Bahamas Maritime Authority or such other similar bodies; and reporting by the Academy regarding the financial records of the special fund.
