Abstract
The Policy defines biosecurity and lays down the biosecurity vision for Bhutan. It contains the policy objectives to ensure safe food and protection of health of the people of Bhutan, sustainable use of natural resources, protection of agricultural systems and biodiversity. The Policy statements include protection from harmful effects of pests and diseases, invasive alien species, GMOs, toxic chemicals and food additives; adopting an integrated approach; strengthening the legislative framework; establishing National Biosecurity Commission; and risk assessment and management. The Policy discusses the existing legislative framework and identifies relevant stakeholders for partnership and coordination towards implementation of the Policy.
