Abstract
The mission of the National Human Settlement Policy (Policy) is to provide a framework for planning and development of environmentally sustainable, culturally and economically vibrant and disaster resilient human settlements. The objectives of the Policy include promoting different types of settlements and an integrated approach to their planning and development; ensuring preservation of environment and conservation of the ecology; ensuring preservation of tradition, culture, historic structures and sacred sites; ensuring that human settlements are safe and resilient to disasters; promoting equitable access and rational use of resources; and access to housing for all. The guiding principles are laid down. The Policy statements cover aspects such as Settlement System, Human Settlement Planning, Environment, Climate Change and Disaster, Infrastructure Services and Institutional and Legal Framework.
