Spatial Planning Standards.

The objective of the spatial planning standards is to provide for fair, economic and sustainable use of land. The preparation of spatial plans encompasses various aspects such as protecting the environment and the cultural identity of the country, controlling the intensity of development, making provisions for public amenities and spaces, planning infrastructural networks and, ensuring the sustainable utilisation of space. The first section deals with the preparation of spatial plans within the national spatial planning framework. The second section provides tools to manage the scale and intensity of development, ensure compatible mixes of uses in planned settlements and optimize the use of space. The third section deals with transport networks. The fourth and fifth sections address public amenities and public spaces respectively. The sixth section provides cross-cutting requirements and recommendations for health, safety and accessibility, aiming at ensuring that planning results in settlements that are safe, inclusive and accessible for all.
