Abstract
This Act provides for the manufacture, importation, placing on the market and use of agrochemicals, i.e. any organic, inorganic or live biological material intended or offered for sale for purposes of: (a) destruction, control, repulsion, attraction or prevention of any undesirable life forms injurious to plant and animal growth; or (b) promotion or inhibition of plant growth such as fertilizers, growth regulators, hormones, defoliants or legume inoculants.
The Act provides for the appointment of the Registrar of Agrochemicals and the National Agrochemicals Committee. The Registrar shall, among other things, register agrochemicals in accordance with this Act, monitor the sale, use and test residues of agrochemicals and develop a code of practice for the management of and dealings in agrochemicals. The Committee shall have advisory and review functions. No person shall manufacture, import, distribute, sell or dispose an agrochemical unless he or she is licensed to do so under this Act. The Act further, among other things, specifies requirements regarding the labelling and handling of agrochemicals.
