Abstract
This Act makes provision for control on the sinking of boreholes.
“Borehole” is defined in section 2. It shall not include a well sunk by Africans, with hand labour only, in any of the Tribal Territories defined in the Tribal Territories Act or on any of the Barolong Farms. The Contractor shall be deemed to be the sinker of a borehole (sect. 3). A person who, for purposes of searching for or abstracting of water, proposes to sink a borehole as specified in section 4, shall give notice to the Director of Geological Survey of Botswana, and shall keep a record of progress of the wok in the form as provided by the Director. Works may be inspected by a person authorized by the Director under section 5. Results of pump tests shall be reported by the person sinking the borehole to the Director (sect. 6) and reports shall be sent upon completion or abandonment of the borehole (sect. 7). Section 8 contains special provisions that apply to sinking of boreholes in Tribal Territories (10 sections).
