Abstract
These Regulations consists of XIV parts plus two schedules: Part I-Citation, Part II-Interpretation, Part III-Application and exemptions, Part IV-Restriction on selling, imports, etc., Part V-Composition, Part VI-Iodation, Part VII-GFood additives, Part VIII-Contaminants, Part IX-Hygiene, Part X-Particle size, Part XI-Packaging, transport and storage, Part XII-Labelling, Part XIII-Method of analysis, Part XIV-Penalties.
The aims and purposes of these Regulations are to regulate the selling of food grade salt, which is manufactured, distributed, or used as an ingredient in food manufactured or imported into Botswana.
For food-grade salt, it means a crystalline product consisting of 97 percent sodium chloride which is used as an ingredient or flavoring in or on food, and which may be obtained from the sea, underground rock salt deposits, or natural brine, and which may also be referred to as table salt, cooking salt, flavored salt or dendritic salt These Regulations shall not apply to salt from origins other than those referred to in the definition of "food grade salt, "especially not salt, which is a by-product of chemical industries or low sodium salt.
