Abstract
"Locust" is defined in section 3 as "any gregarious species of grasshopper which has the habit of forming migratory swarms". The provisions of this Act shall be in operation in such areas or districts of Botswana as the President, from time to time, by notice in the Gazette, may prescribe, for such periods as may be specified in any such notice (sect. 2). The occupier of any land whereupon flying locust appears shall notify the District Commissioner (sect. 4). The Ministry may take such steps for the destruction of any locust or locust eggs on any land as it may deem advisable (sect. 5). No compensation shall be payable by the Government for loss caused by measures taken under section 5. The occupier of land has the duty to destroy locust on his land and shall be assisted in this free of charge by the Ministry (sect. 6). Driving locust from own land to neighbour land shall be considered an offence (sect. 7). The remaining sections deal with offences, enforcement, and regulation making powers of the President.
