Abstract
This Policy consists of 7 sections divided into 58 articles: 1-Introduction and background, 2-Strategy goals, 3-Main environmental issues and opportunities, 4-The strategy framework and measures, 5-Control of movement of imported animals, 6-Management of animals for slaughter and inspection of export slaughterhouses and abattoirs, 7-General provisions.
The aims and purposes of this Policy are to increase the effectiveness with which natural resources are used and managed so that beneficial interactions are optimized and harmful environmental side-effects are minimized; integrate the work of the many sectoral Ministries and interest groups throughout Botswana, thereby improving the development of natural resources through conservation, vice versa.
Regarding the conservation, the Policy apply the conservation of all main ecosystems, wildlife, and cultural resources; the protection of endangered species; the maintenance of a stock of renewable resources while increasing their sustainable yields; the control of the depletion of exhaustible resources at optimal rates; the prevention and control of pollution A series of detailed strategy goals ha also been identified by the Government
Concerning the development goals, the Government should support the development of new and better natural resources uses, which are sustainable; the optimization of the existing uses which are made of all-natural resources; the development of multiple, rather than a single purpose, natural resource uses; the diversification of the rural economy so as to generate new jobs; the development of links with neighboring countries in conserving resources
