The Ombudsman Act, 2021, establishes the continuation of the Office of the Ombudsman, delineating its powers, functions, and the procedures for investigating administrative actions and human rights violations. The Act mandates the appointment of the Ombudsman and Deputy Ombudsman by the President, with specific qualifications and disqualifications outlined. The Ombudsman is empowered to investigate complaints against government departments and private entities, addressing issues of maladministration and human rights violations. The Act prescribes the manner of lodging complaints, the conduct of investigations, and the procedures for reporting findings. It also includes provisions for the protection of the Ombudsman and staff from liability, confidentiality requirements, and the submission of annual and special reports to the National Assembly.
